What’s Coming Up in the Ogden Training Room

Big things are happening at the Ogden Front — we’re thrilled to unveil our training room transformation plans.

This update has been literal years in the making; the idea first took hold in 2021 and was continuously being planned and edited while the SLC expansion was taking place. Now, it’s our time to shine.

Benni, Ogden’s manager, project spearhead, heart, and soul of the gym said it best, “The space reflects over three years of planning, dreaming and collaborating. It’s built not just to meet expectations, but to blow them out of the water. From layout to features, it’s everything we love about The Front: thoughtful design, intentional training, and a community-first mindset.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

First Things First, What’s Happening?

While the space we have upstairs is limited in size by the unique architecture of our historical building, we want to utilize it to the max. We wanted something that members could use to push their limits and level up their climbing. We wanted a space that showed our members that we’ve been listening and that we’ve done our research.

We gathered feedback, dug into online reviews, and really looked at what could maximize our footprint in our smaller training room while adding maximum train-age.

All this to say, we’ve put in tons of work and have decided that in order to make the space as good as it gets, we’re officially retiring the spray wall and old MoonBoard to make way for a brand new 2024 MoonBoard and Tension Mirror board, as well as making some smaller functional updates to the area. Pretty cool, right?

We’ll be keeping our hangboards and adding cubbies along the walls to help house your supplemental workout equipment and for extra storage for members while they train.

Check out our updated layout below!

MoonBoard Upgrade

We wanted to have the latest MoonBoard set for optimal performance, and we’re pretty stoked to share it with you.

2024 MoonBoard Specs

The 2024 Moonboard brings the intensity and community connection of previous systems with added enhanced features and holds. The Moonboard Masters 2024 hold set offers great texture and grip diversity, and the board itself will be equipped with an updated LED system and app connectivity, which will allow you to climb routes made by people all over the world.

The hold set includes 198 holds from the School Holds sets A through F series and 10 yellow MoonBoard footholds. The organic curvy pockets, pinches and edges will challenge your strength and skill physically and mentally.

Tension Board Addition

The Tension mirror board was designed to facilitate balanced climbing progression by helping climbers easily identify and target specific weaknesses. The mirrored layout allows climbers to try the same moves on both sides, allowing for a more well-rounded training structure.

The Tension Mirror Board also helps with footwork skill progression by offering a wide variety of easy to hard footholds that have a variety of textures on a lot of the pieces, depending on which angle you approach the hold from.

In my opinion one of the most exciting features about these boards is that you can connect to the app and climb routes that others have set. Once connected, the lights will illuminate each hold on the specific climb.

Impact Co. Opportunity

With the installation of the new boards, you may wonder where the old items have gone. One of our members bought the old MoonBoard which allowed us to not only donate that money, but also match it, for a whopping $4400 donated to the YCC.

Right now through July 9th if you set up donations to our local non-profits (that we match dollar for dollar) you will be entered in to win tons of cool prizes, including Pit Vipers, footwear, Petzl items and more! You can even receive a free harness for becoming a member and donating.

We’re adding tons of new updates between all of our locations. While all of these updates and training tools can be a bit confusing, we offer tons of information on all of our equipment. And, of course, our friendly gym staff are always here to help you out or guide to one of our many beginner-friendly classes!
