This Recreational competition is intended to be low-stress and intended for first-time competitors. If you aren’t sure which to sign up for, check in with your kid’s coach! If they’re not on a coached team, this Youth Recreational Comp is definitely right for them.

If your child already competes in USAC-sanctioned events and wants to really test themselves, they may want to compete in the Citizen’s category aligned with their skill level instead of the Youth Recreational Comp.

  • Scoring will be in a standard redpoint format
  • Log all your scores on Pebble (one Pebble judge needed as a witness)
  • For B/A/JR only: all climbs completed on lead give an +25 extra points per route

Comp Etiquette

First and foremost, our comps are meant to be fun and to establish camaraderie within our community. These are a great way to meet and climb with those who share your love of the sport. We encourage you to be supportive of your fellow climbers!

Here are some etiquette guidelines:

« Wait your turn and be courteous

« Be safe – don’t walk, run, or climb under others

« Don’t get frustrated, stay positive and have fun!

First time?

« Be sure to watch others for beta

« Pace yourself – remember it’s a timed event, not a race

« Don’t take it too seriously! Don’t be intimidated by the term “competition”
