Registration for Open Studio opens 3 days in advance, and registration for all other classes opens 3 weeks in advance. All classes and open studio blocks require a 8-hour cancellation notice. No-shows or late cancellation are subject to a fee. Check out the FAQs for more information.

Memberships

We offer monthly auto pay memberships and pre-paid memberships. A break down of prices are listed on the Membership Rates & Perks page for each Front location. First-time members, give us a try with our two-week membership, or take advantage of savings on a special full year membership!

Studio Pass

Not a member yet, but want to take a class here? Start with a Studio Pass! The Studio Pass is for individuals who want to try classes or open studios before committing to a full Front membership.

Purchase your Studio Pass below, then register for classes or open studios as a Studio Pass Holder. Check in at Studio 1396 for your first visit to get your scan card and start creating!

Your Studio Pass includes 10 visits that can be used for any class or open studio session at Studio 1396 — plus same-day gym access at The Front. Redeem one visit per day and enjoy as many sessions as you’d like that day.

Studio Pass visits are non-transferrable and expire one year from first use.

Clay

Clay is sold in half bags (12.5 lbs.) and full bags (25 lbs.)

B-Mix Clay

Smooth white clay ideal for both hand building and wheel throwing. Most beginner friendly.

HAWAIIAN RED CLAY

A bright red clay with a sandier texture. Great for hand building but can be slightly more challenging to throw with.

Recycled Clay

Made from all the clay scraps that we can recycle in-house; this clay takes on some of the best qualities of the other clays while also taking on a unique color and texture reflecting which clays are more popular in the studio!

Clay, tools, and firings must be purchased separately.

We do not currently offer studio-only memberships, but you may purchase a 10 visit Studio Pass!

Studio 1396 can be accessed by members and by those who have a 10 visit Studio Pass, but you cannot use a day pass or buddy pass.

Yes, you can use your Front punch pass here, and you can use your Studio Pass at The Front too!

Yes! All members and visitors must complete a video orientation before entering the studio. If it’s your first time in the studio, please request a tour to learn about our offerings and policies before utilizing the space.

No. We do not accept cash.

There is a $5 charge for each no-show or late cancellation (less than six hours notice). If you miss the first class of a multi-week course, you will be charged a cancellation fee all classes following (for example, if you are in a six-class course, your fee for missing the first class will be $30). If you have signed up for a class or open studio block and know you won’t be able to attend, please cancel your registration at least six hours prior to the class time to avoid a charge and to give the spot to someone else. Questions or concerns related to this fee can be directed to the Studio Team at pottery.front.desk@thefrontclimbingclub.com.

Open Studio sessions can be booked three days in advance. All other class registration opens three weeks in advance. See the full calendar to book your space!

Studio Use

We ask that you follow these basic etiquette rules to keep the studio running smoothly for you and your fellow ceramicists:

  1. Label your work
  2. Don’t touch or move anyone else’s work
  3. Respect the space
  4. Clean up after yourself

Yes! Our studio sells toolkits and clay. See the Memberships and Day Rates tab for current offerings.

While you will need to have your own tool kit to work with, the studio has buckets, towels, boards, and several specialty tools available for checkout upon request.

No. We do not allow outside clays and glazes.

Our Ceramic Studio only fires mid-range clays.

If you rent a locker, you may leave your clay and tools. Otherwise, please bring your clay and tools home with you! Shelves and carts are only for student work. We highly suggest labeling your personal tools and materials. The Studio does not take responsibility for any missing tools.

Approximately a week between visits.

Every Monday, Studio Staff goes through Open Studio shelves and removes all work older than the previous Monday.

Projects made while actively taking a class may be stored on a designated class shelf. After the class concludes, it will be moved to Open Studio Shelving. Works in progress may be stored on Open Studio shelving and must be labeled with your name and the date you were last in the studio.

For ongoing projects, please update the date as you work on your project.

If you are out of town or cannot update the date on your project, please email us with your name and a description of your work and we will update the date when we go through the shelves on Monday.

We fire at least one Bisque (first firing) and one Glaze (second firing) per week. Each firing takes about 24 hours to fire and cool. Firing times are posted both in studio and on our Instagram!

Of course! We have both Assisted Open Studio and Open Studio for hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing. These are typically two-hour blocks offered at various times throughout our studio hours. If you need assistance, have questions, or need a demo, please sign up for Assisted Open Studio hours.

To reserve a spot, register through the calendar online or on Pebble.

Browse our class schedule and register online, or stop by the studio to chat with staff about which class fits your skill level. We’d love to take you on a tour!

You’ll need to purchase a toolkit and clay before your first session—both are available at the front desk during studio hours.

Before class, we’ll have a studio orientation video for you to watch and a waiver to complete. This step can also be done online here. Arrive 15 minutes early on day one for check-in!

Start with either Wheel Throwing 1 or Hand Building 1— both are beginner-friendly multi-week classes that cover foundational techniques of our two class categories.

Sign up for all Studio 1396 classes through the calendar online or through Pebble.

Start with an Intro Class, then jump into Open Studio once you’re comfortable working independently.

Open Studio is for makers who know the basics and can work solo. Instructors are on-site for quick questions and studio maintenance, but if you need more than 10-15 minutes of guidance, you’ll get more value from a class first.

We offer 2, 3, and 4-week classes that cover foundational techniques to set you up for success in Open Studio.
