Hilary Silberman // Apprentice Coach

Hilary Silberman has been an avid climber for 30 years. She grew up on the East Coast and started climbing in the Gunks making the trek from NYC every weekend. As a gymnast the transition to a climbing was easy, but learning the mental and movement aspects of climbing took more time. Hilary started competing soon after and competed at the local and national levels. She made her way Salt Lake City via a year long climbing road-trip living the “vanlife.”

Hilary has been a coach for the Front Comp team for the past 6 years and previously coached gymnastics for many years. As a climbing coach, her specialty and love is teaching movement. She feels movement is at the core of climbing and everything else builds upon that. Seeing climbers make one little change in their position or where they initiate a movement and then easily do a move, is so rewarding. Her philosophy on coaching is to help develop the whole athlete to improve not only their climbing skills, but to support them emotionally and in the mental aspects of the sport. This in turn helps athletes become the best climber and competitor they can be. Professionally, Hilary is a Speech-Language Pathologist, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Utah. She is also a parent, of a previous Front comp team athlete.

Zach is the Youth and Adult Programs Manager of the Front Ogden, his role encompasses all thing programming as well as running Ogden’s Comp-team. With 4 years of experience coaching young athletes and 6 years in the climbing industry, he has helped several athletes reach the Regionals and Divisional level. Zach believes in focusing on the individual athlete to help them become lifelong climbers and embody the spirit of “come as you are, and we will send you home stronger!” He is excited to coach athletes from across the country at the Youth Nationals Training Camp and help them improve their skills and achieve their goals.

Registration

This camp is open to all Youth C, B, A, and JR. level athletes. Although not required, it is recommended that participants have qualified for the 2024 USAC Divisional finals to be eligible for the camp. Since the climbs will mirror national-level ability, national qualification is also recommended.
