Four Fresh Music Finds and Upcoming Concerts

Is the playlist you’ve had on repeat all winter feeling as stale as mine has been?

Annie, here! Let me introduce you to four artists to freshen up your tunes and get you on your feet for our upcoming Summer Music Series. All of these artists are going to take the stage – see the full lineup right here.

Horace Greene

Hailing from the Midwest, Horace Green is the musical brainchild of best friends Tony and Sam. When asked what genre of music they make, they agree they’re not quite sure but say probably indie rock. Funky and groovy, while finding spaces to be reflective and dreamy, Horace Greene is the kind of band that can make you sway your legs and bob your head in your office rolley chair—which is exactly what I found myself doing when listening to their almost 7 minute single “Cream.”

Full of quirky humor and flair, Horace Green is playful with their audience. When asked if there was anything left on their bucket list as an artist/band, they responded “Yes, world domination. Or galactic domination. Whichever comes first.” Hopefully if/when they achieve world domination, it’s executed by hypnotizing us with a new mesmerizingly catchy album. Has anyone done a study on this yet?

My Favorite Songs: Cream, Son of a Gun, Lonely Now
See them Live: June 24, 6:00p – 9:00p in our Salt Lake Courtyard

The Copper Children

Self-dubbed artists of “Psychedelic Gospel” The Copper Children have found their voice in this unique space. Formed in 2015, this band reminds its listeners to “remember to have fun, be silly, and be yourself.” Blending soul, folk, and psychedelic sound of the 60’s, each song shines apart from its brothers and sisters as the band shows an impressive range in mood and style.

As someone who is a sucker for the harmonica, The Copper Children scratched that itch. Listening to “Mary Jane” was the equivalent of a windows-down, stereo loud on a roadtrip moment, while “This is Heaven” was a bittersweet memory that catches up with you in your quiet moments, growing and falling in intensity. With songs versatile enough to get you introspective or to get you up on your feet dancing, The Copper Children have earned their place as an unforgettable listening experience.

The Whags

A Seattle americana jam band, The Whags create music that feels authentic and personable. With enchanting dual vocals that flow over southern-rock guitar, this band creates a space for its listeners to rest and be re-energized. This is a sound that is bluesy and jammy and soulful and everything in between.

The Whags find elements from different genres to weave together a particular sound. With songs featuring a mandolin, 12-string guitar, and organs, experimentation seems to have been crucial to achieve such a unique and authentic vibe. Many of their songs are created from long drives and their time in nature. These groovy jams seem perfect for sinking back in your Adirondak chair on a summer evening.

My Favorite Songs: Olga, Casey at the Bat, High Resolution
See them Live: July 22, 6:00p – 9:00p in our Salt Lake Courtyard

Theoretical Blonde

This 5-piece band was formed in 2023 in our very own Salt Lake City! Although named Theoretical Blonde, none of the members of this bluegrass-adjacent band sport blonde hair.  If you can look past that though, and you find a genuine and dynamic sound that feels both comfortable and fresh.

Theoretical Blonde finds meaningful connections with their audience and within themselves as a group of best friends both onstage and off. “Perfect Timing” had me feeling nostalgic and surprised me with a delightful piano riff. “Mountain Dew” made me chuckle at the name and made me wish I was in the audience clapping along. Oh, and also made me thirsty for something I can’t quite put my finger on.

My Favorite Songs: Little WordsPerfect Timing, Mountain Dew
See them Live: September 2, 6:00p – 9:00p in our Salt Lake Courtyard
Plus: On Theoretical Blonde’s concert night, we’re raising funds for our Impact Coalition Partner Volunteers of America Utah! $1 from every food and drink sale will support VOA Utah, and The Front will match every donation, dollar for dollar.
