Lifelong Learning at The Front and Beyond

It’s back to school season!

While most of us aren’t heading back to campus, instead continuing our regularly scheduled programming, something about August re-ignites the want to learn new things, acquire more skills, and stretch our brains. There are tons of opportunities to grow this season, both inside and out, and we’re excited about every single one. Hop on the life-long learner train!

Life-long learning is more than adding to your metaphorical tool kit. Sure, with continued learning you’ll probably pick up some handy skills that will serve you well (knitting, for instance), but you’ll also improve your self-confidence, agreeability, and social skills. Continued learning scratches the part of our brains that sometimes gets buried—the part that says, “Oh yeah, I can surprise myself and do hard things.” In addition, some research indicates that continued learning comes with health benefits like improved memory and even a longer lifespan. It’s a win-win!

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to continue learning at The Front is to continue climbing. Climbers typically speak to the problem-solving aspects of the sport and the mental fortitude it takes to project, fail, and try again. While climbing is of course for fun and sport, it really is an effort towards learning and growth. We don’t just mean those gym gains! For more structured climbing learning, outside of pulling hard on plastic, try any of our classes. All climbing classes are free for members through August 31, and our Front Climbing Coalition Classes are always included with membership. In these weekly classes you can meet up with fellow climbers, train your endurance, and improve your technique.

Learning doesn’t have to be directly tied to climbing improvement for it to count in our bookIn addition to all things climbing, we’ve been particularly interested in working our minds, creatively and spiritually. Looking for your new thing? Try exploring…

Gardening

We’re finally harvesting our summer crops (BLTs, anyone?) Get ready for your next season of garden goodness with Millcreek Garden Center’s near infinite resource page and magical, walkable greenhouses.

Yoga

Longtime yogi looking for more? Grow your yoga skillset with The Front’s Yoga Teacher Training this August. Learn Ashtanga from a new perspective and prep to share your love of this practice with others.

Cooking

Get out of your meal-prep rut and explore new ways of cooking. Get inspiration from our weekly specials at Rumsy’s, or pick up Nutrition for Climbers in our Gear Shop to spice up your macros.

Ceramics

We’ve been loving the tactile skill of throwing on a wheel these days and the meditative nature of centering and coning clay Members can look forward to The Front’s Studio 1396 opening this fall to get in on the action!

Line Dancing

As much as we want Summer Music to go on forever and ever, it does come to a close this September. We’ll have one last hurrah this fall, but that doesn’t have to stop your dancing. Our neighbors at Fisher Brewing host regular Honky Tonk nights where you can practice your dance moves to be the belle of the ball next season!

No need to pick up new backpacks and binders – life-long learning can start at The Front with your membership. Go ahead, dive into something new. Your brain will thank you for it. Take a look at the amenities at Salt Lake City, Ogden, and South Main to get started!
